  MULTIPLE MYSTERIES - 2006

Submitted by: T.E.C. - Age 43, of Lake Cushman, Washington.

Sighting: Summer of 2006. Lake Koakanee & Lake Cushman area, gateway to the Olympic Mountains. Washington State (Mason County).

I live in the Lake Cushman area above Hoodsport in the Olympic Mountains. I have had several incidents and two sightings. Last summer, my friend and I were fishing in a boat in Lake Koakanee. We heard something big running in the water. Big enough to create waves. We could hear how the water was splashing and it was obvious something big was running through it. We were about thirty feet from the shore and the waves did rock the boat. We noticed a really bad smell, almost bad enough to make our eyes water.

We also noticed that the birds and the whole area got very quiet and stayed that way. There is an inlet that goes through the woods. This thing must have stepped out of the lake and ran into the woods and everything got quiet. My friend decided we should head back. As we were leaving, I looked back toward the inlet and the woods and noticed something very big and dark standing by the trees.

It was standing on two feet and swaying back and forth. It was in the shadows, but I could tell it was hairy, had long arms and stood maybe eight feet tall. I felt like it was looking into my eyes. I asked my friend to turn around and look, just as this thing stepped back into the trees.

The second sighting was very brief, and the creature looked the same. This took place last year as well. I was driving home at around 11:00 p.m. In my headlights, I saw this huge thing run across the road in front of me, jump a deep ditch and disappear into the woods.  It was running on two feet, its arms swinging at its sides, dark and hairy, and again about eight feet tall.

The thing is, I never before saw anything run that fast. And it never looked at the car at all. Which I thought strange because any animal caught in your headlights will usually turn to look at you. I went back the next day to have a look at where it ran into the woods, but couldn’t find anything as we had a big windstorm that night.           I live above Lake Koakanee. I hear these roars between one and three o'clock in the morning. It is like nothing I have heard before. As strange as it seems, it almost sounds like that furry thing from “Star Wars”. Other people have heard things around here as well. Another friend who I go fishing with hears the roars from over at his place too.

I have come across curious rock piles up in the mountains. I at first just thought someone was bored and piled rocks. Several times late at night, I also hear these wood thumps. I’ve been camping further up the mountains and I’ve heard these same thumps as well. At home, late one night, I was thumping on the trees and got several answers from different directions. Then something heavy came crashing down in the yard on the other side of the house. I ran inside before I saw anything, but I felt like something was watching me from the outside. And my cats that were sitting in the windowsills were all freaking out and afraid of something. I have lived here for about five years, and it has been since the Bear Gulch fire that all this really started.

I plan on more exploring in the mountains as I now have a four-wheel drive vehicle. Bigfoot makes me curious enough to do this. I want to know what it is and I believe they mean no harm. I hope one day for a closer encounter.

SIGHTING AT CHINOOK PASS - 1999

Submitted by: J.A.H. - age 39, of Richland, Washington State.

Sighting: April of 1999. Highway 410 along Chinook Pass, through the Wenatchee National Forest in the Cascade Mountain Range (Yakima county).

One late spring night, with my four children asleep in the car, I was driving to South Bend from the Tri-Cities and decided to take Chinook Pass for some reason rather than the normal Snoqualmie route. It was about 11:45 p.m. as I was driving through the forest and past the Whistlin Jack Lodge. I am not sure of the exact location but I remember going through a few twists and turns and then coming to a straight away where the road goes up hill. I was thinking to myself how quiet it was and there were no other cars on the road.          As I looked up the road, where the straight away crested, I could see this figure walking across the road from the right to the left side. It was very tall, not quite up right, and walking slowly across the road. I was going about fifty miles per hour and slowed when I saw it. As I came closer I had to keep from gasping as I suddenly realized that this was not a man.                        It was large and at least seven feet tall or more. It was dark in color in the night; its hair was drapy and had a long sleek look to it. If you’ve ever seen the show “The Adams Family” his head reminded me of “Cousin It” the way the shape of the head is round on top but widens out at the bottom. The legs were long, as were its arms that reached to its knees, and they swayed back and fro as it walked.                          I was instantly afraid and I could feel the hair on my arms, neck and head stand up. I kept driving and came within thirty feet of it.  It did not stop and never looked in my direction, it was looking down and toward the direction it was going. It walked swiftly across the road in five long steps. There was a guardrail on the side (the metal ones with wood posts) and it stepped over this with no effort, and continued into the trees and was gone.          My hair was literally standing on end as I slowly drove past the spot it had crossed.  I was scared and excited all at the same time. Had I not had my children in the car I might have been bold enough to stop and see if I could see more. I was wide-awake and the adrenalin I was feeling lasted the rest of my trip.

I drove through that area again in the summer of 2006 and recalled my memories. Once again the hair on my body rose and I knew I was in the same location. Now I know that there are lots of stories, and people see things ... but I have never experienced unnatural feelings like the raising of my hair like that. I will never forget. I hold strong that I truly saw the creature and had a sighting. I am a believer.

THE CREEPER - 2004

Submitted by: S.C.L. - Age 35, of Eureka, California(Grand Adventurer)

Sighting: March of 2004. Dunsmuir, California. South of Mt. Shasta (Siskiyou County).

I don’t tell this story much, but in 2004, my friends, Roofie Roof Top, Sparkles, Scott and I, hobo’d our way to Dunsmuir, California. We had been at a campsite just shy of a week, and were having a great time sitting by the campfires, eating good food, and just enjoying each other's company. The next morning we were going to hop a train south to Roseville, and then a short jaunt home to Sac Town (Sacramento).

My friends rolled out their sleeping bags around midnight and quickly fell asleep. I was real excited to be leaving for home the next day, so I was up most of the night with the gears in my head turning, thinking about the things I had planned to do when I got home.

I lay there for hours listening to the roar of the river and looking up at the beautiful full moon when all of a sudden between my feet and brother moon, walked an extremely tall, slightly hunched over dark figure, that was not human.

It was hard to be precise of its height, since I was lying down, but I can honestly say it had to be upwards of seven feet tall, or more. A dark brown was the color of its thick, hairy body. With eyes wide open, I quietly watched as this great mystery walked smoothly past without making a single twig snap.

I was quite impressed with its stealth. Without a care, and with giant strides, it headed down the ravine to my right. To this day, I can still feel my heart rush from the memory.

To the defense of my friend the Bigfoot; I was freaked out, yes, but I did not feel threatened in anyway. When I later told my friends of our campsite visitor, they had mixed feelings of doubt and amazement. Mostly doubt, of which I have none. I know what I saw.

BIGFOOT IN THE ROAD - 1998

Submitted by: A & G.H., of Anderson, California

Sighting: September of 1998. Highway 38 to the Coast of Oregon (Douglas County).

In 1998 my wife, three boys and I were traveling from Redding, California, to Seal Rock, Oregon on the coast to visit my father and step mom. While traveling on the highway it was already dark and there were many twists and turns. While rounding a corner I noticed a RV parked precariously on the right side of the road, as though it had stopped in a hurry. People were milling around from other cars, which had stopped as well, so the area was lit up with headlights pretty good.           I turned my attention back to the road to see a creature with the stature of a man sitting on the road directly in front of my car! I turned sharply to avoid hitting it and began to slow down. I was about to turn around and go back, when my youngest son Dustin cried from the back seat, “Please don’t stop, keep going! I’m afraid.”      A chilling picture began to develop in my mind. It looked like a human but was covered from head to toe with long brown and gray hair. It had no clothing on and was sitting on the road, and had probably been struck by the RV we had just passed. My god, someone just hit a Bigfoot and we almost hit it too! After much pandemonium, we concluded we had just witnessed a Bigfoot, and did not stop until we reached the coast and found a grocery store parking lot to pull into.     It was obviously different from anything we’ve ever seen before. Even after seeing the creature many miles back, my youngest son didn’t want to get out of the car. I was driving a 1988 Nissan Maxima Wagon; I stand five foot eight inches. I went and sat in front of my car to try and gauge the stature of the creature. Its head and shoulders were above the hood of my car sitting square on the ground, my head barely reached the hood.

Soon after, my wife went to the Wax Museum in Newport, Oregon where there was a wax Bigfoot. She said it had an uncanny resemblance to the Bigfoot we saw.

MT. SPOKANE SIGHTING - 1994

Submitted by: D.A.D. - Age 31, of Seattle, Washington State.

Sighting: September of 1994. Mt. Spokane, Washington State (Spokane County).

A friend and I were bow hunting on Mt. Spokane up by the ski lifts and ‘Gussy's little restaurant.’ The day was warm and clear. We both saw a creature outlined on the ridge above us, probably at 1000 yards or better. It was an upright figure at least a foot or two taller than a ‘tall guy,’ with a fairly wide body. We could not make out any features as the sun was behind it on the ridge, but it caught our eye right away because of how fast it was moving. At first we thought we spooked an elk, but right away noticed it was upright and moving on two legs the whole length of the ridge to the tree line (probably 5000 yards). And when I say fast, I mean probably 30 or 40 mph, it was fast as I have ever seen an elk or deer cut loose. There is no doubt in either one of our minds as to what we saw. It actually kinda ruined our hunt and needless to say we haven’t hunted Spokane County since. This is a no bullshit story and I swear by it.

                         FOREST PARK SIGHTING - 2005

Submitted by: G.E.L. - Age 20, of Portland, Oregon.

Sighting: Mid-January of 2005. Forest Park, northeast of Portland, Oregon (Multnomah County).

On a cold, dark night in January, my girlfriend and I went to Forest Park, which sits just northwest of Portland, Oregon. We parked in a tiny lot off to the side of the road surrounded by forest. It was around eleven o'clock at night and other than the moonlight and a streetlight, it was very dark. It had been lightly drizzling off and on, there was a breeze and the trees were swaying.

Before long, I began to hear noises, bushes moving, rustling, and twigs snapping. It never got very loud, but it was definitely noticeable. At first I thought it was the wind. Suddenly, I began to hear definite movement and footsteps coming from out of the woods, the noise becoming louder and louder as someone was approaching. Which was alarming, as we were the only ones parked in the dark lot. I figured that maybe it was a park ranger coming to tell us to leave. I couldn’t see anything from inside the car, so I stepped outside. And there, approximately fifteen feet away from me stood a Bigfoot creature!  He seemed to be about six feet tall; tall but not unnaturally so. He had long dark hair, probably brown, but it was dark so it was hard to tell exactly. I did not get a good look at the face or eyes, and I didn’t smell anything. He was just walking at a very casual pace, and turned from us to go back into the woods.  Was he looking in the car? Was he watching us? I wasn’t afraid when I realized what was happening because he was already walking away and because I’ve never heard of a Bigfoot attacking anyone. My girlfriend was a little freaked out, just by the fact of seeing a Bigfoot. I’ve told friends about this but for the most part they’re skeptical. It doesn’t matter to me if people believe or not because I’m sure people will accept it in time.  Comment: In 1803, William Clark (of Lewis and Clark fame) paddled far enough up the Willamette River to see Forest Park’s present location. He described this forest as having Douglas fir as it's predominate tree, with trunks ranging from five to eight feet in diameter. An abundance of wildlife can be found in Forest Park. The park contains over 5,100 wooded acres making it the largest, forested natural area within city limits in the United States.
BABY BIGFOOT - 1980 Submitted by: D.A.F. - Age 39, of Eugene, Oregon. Sighting: Spring of 1980. South hills of Eugene, Oregon (Lane County). When I was twelve years old, my fourteen-year-old cousin and I were dirt bike riding in the south hills of Eugene, Oregon. Here are thick-forested areas that reach hundreds of miles from the mountains all the way to the coast of Oregon. My cousin lived next to the forest where fire trails were cut throughout and we found these perfect for dirt bikes.    We were having a blast as we rode through the dirt trails weaving up and down and flying off the jumps. While riding past one thick patch of brush and trees we smelled a strong foul odor, like something dead. And suddenly there standing in front of us, along the edge of the tree line, stood a small creature about four feet tall. It was not a dog, not a deer, not a bear, it was not like anything we had ever seen before, and it stood upright on two feet.  He was standing just twenty feet away from us. He had thick dark brown hair, about six to eight inches long, that hung on him like dreadlocks. He had big eyes. He just stood there in one spot staring wide-eyed at us, as we did him, for maybe two whole minutes. He stood perfectly still, as if he thought maybe we wouldn't see him standing in that tree line. Suddenly a loud grunt came from behind the creature, and it turned and ran back into the thick woods. We wanted to chase after it, but the woods were too thick for the dirt bike. And we weren't sure we should go after it anyway.  Our Grandpa was a park and recreation director for the Lane County Parks Department. He use to tell us stories about Bigfoot in Washington, so it didn't take us long to figure out what we had encountered. I am in the woods all the time, camping, fishing, four wheeling. I have never seen or smelled anything like it since, but if I smell it again I will know what it is.
                                                SPIRIT LAKE - 1970
Submitted by: J.C.C. - Age 51, of Mount Vernon, Washington State.
Encounter: July of 1970. Spirit Lake Area of Mount St. Helens, Washington State (Cowlitz County).  My Uncle Gary was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, who one summer invited me to accompany him on a fishing trip to the lakes above Mount St. Helens. (The lakes are all gone now, although Spirit Lake is trying to make a comeback. At this time in 1970 however, all the lakes flourished). Upon arriving at the mountain, we parked in the lot next to the Spirit Lake store. Harry Truman was the owner of the store and boat rental, (see Notes below). When we entered the store, we were greeted by Harry. I remember he was wearing a flannel shirt with bib overalls. He really loved to talk about the lake as he invited us out to the dock to sit and have coffee while he rambled on about the lake and where to find the trails to the ponds above.  He even offered to take us across the lake to the far side in his boat. We were there to hike, so we had to turn him down. After coffee, he ushered us back inside the store to show us some worms he thought would work great for the fishing. We bought two dozen of his worms and a bait carrier that could be attached to a belt.   Note: I was really saddened to hear he wouldn’t leave his mountain before it erupted. I was in the military at the time and out of the country. Harry really left an impression on me as a happy go lucky guy who was a great talker. He was someone who could talk with you like he knew you forever… We then proceeded to hike with full packs and poles up the trail. The trail went around the lake to the far side, and from there you could take two trails; one went up the mountain and the other meandered north away from the lake. We took the trail that meandered around the north side as Harry mentioned some beaver ponds that we could fish if we didn’t mind the hike.  We had hiked all day when we decided to pull off the trail and make camp for the night. It was still light out when we set up our small two-man tent and built a small campfire. After a meal of hot dogs and beans we made coffee and sat around and talked. It was a nice, warm summer night with a full moon, and I remember discussing how red the sky was that night. We turned in around 11:00 p.m.  At some point during the night my Uncle woke me, shushing me to listen. We heard what we thought might be a bear messing around the campsite. There were a lot of very loud noises and grunting sounds that went on for a good five minutes or so. When instantly the noises stopped, the creature seemed to stand quietly still for a few minutes. When just as quickly the grunting began again, only harder and deeper this time, and suddenly, a loud Thud next to the tent that literally shook the ground. We then heard (and felt) the heavy footsteps in fast stride running off into the woods.  We lay in the tent for about thirty minutes; afraid that whatever was out there would return. Finally we were able to pull ourselves together enough to talk each other into moving. We took our old 9-volt lantern and crawled out to investigate, only to discover a large tree laying length wise directly alongside our tent. It had been pushed over, roots and all.  Had it fell on our tent, we would have been seriously hurt. We checked the tree; it was not dead and appeared to be very solid, and we found no claw marks on it as a bear might leave. We had camped in a mossy type of area and as we looked around, we could see the ground was torn up real good as was the side of the hill the creature had obviously went up when it left. We found no tracks of any kind in the moss. But there was a smell, a bad smell of decay. At the time I thought my Uncle had crapped his pants. We didn’t stay after that. We were so scared; we packed up in the dark and returned to the parking lot to sleep in the back of the truck. As we hiked back, I made a comment about my Uncle crapping his pants back there. He laughed and said he thought it was me!           The grunting we later surmised were the grunts from pushing the tree over. I believe the tree was a warning that we didn’t belong there. I do not believe it was a bear as the tree just wasn’t the size a bear could push over, and the partial can of beans that were left out were not touched. The grunts were much deeper than that of a bear, and the bad smell of decay was a distinct smell that I've never smelled before or since.  At the time we thought if we didn’t leave we would never make it out alive. I now believe that if it really wanted to hurt us, it would have. I never did return to the area, although I don’t think it was because of the encounter. I now spend time fishing and camping the North Cascades, and I keep aware of my surroundings. I am a true believer of Bigfoot.  History of Harry: To many, Harry Truman was Mt. St. Helens and Spirit Lake. Not to be confused with the late president Harry S. Truman, this Harry owned and operated the Mt. St. Helens Lodge in Spirit Lake, located at the north base of the mountain. He was a colorful, cantankerous, yet lovable old man. Born in West Virginia in 1896, he served our country in World War 1 and was a bootlegger during prohibition. He brought his family to Spirit Lake in 1926 where he started logging, hunting, and farming. The main lodge was built in 1939 and was very popular. Activities included boating, fishing, swimming, camping and hiking. After his wife passed away he lived at the resort with his sixteen cats. In 1980, Mt. St. Helens began acting up. In the evacuations that took place before the eruption, Harry refused to leave his lodge and became popular with the press. He didn’t believe there was enough material in the mountain to kill him. He once said, “If I left this place it would worry me to death!” Harry was 84 years old when he perished, along with his cats, in the eruption on May 18th 1980.
